If you have a little cash and a car.......
We went down Hayling Island the other day and did you know they have that little funfair open all year round. It really does need updating or even just a lick of paint but that's it's charm I reckon! It is just a little seaside funfair and arcade (don't expect Alton Towers!) but the kids I saw just loved it. It had an offer going of £5 for an armband to go on all the rides (£7.50 usually) and free parking. Take a bucket of 2p's for the slots and the kids will love you for it. Bag of chips and a warm coat (for you not the kids, they wont feel the cold) a walk along the beach and throw a few stones in....do a fossil hunt......oh, to have the simple things back
Come on you lot, turn off the TV and get off that sofa!!

have you been to Moors Valley Country Park near Ringwood? you pay to park then entry is free, there are lots of walks through the woods with wooden structures to climb on including a huge Spider, Snake , Mushrooms a wooden Fort and a series of log walks. swings and obstacle courses, there is a fabulous Tree Top Walk with a board walk that is in the top of the trees, it is very safe even for the youngest child, a large carved Totem pole to climb on too. There is an exhibition centre where you can get a cup of tea etc, and a super play park and sand pits to play in, a lake and a miniature steam train to ride. For older children there is an aerial runway and tree slides on wires. You can hire bikes or take your own to cycle through the woods ,miles of tracks and a high wooden view point to find hidden in the woods, a great day out for children and adults, there is also a golf course if you really want to spend some time.

I haven't been there for years!!
We go to Itchen Valley Country Park in Allington Lane, not as big as Moors but they have the wooden structures for the kids to climb on and 2 playgrounds, one with a smaller aerial slide. They do Treasure Trails on a regular basis and the kids can win prizes. In the Spring/Summer you can go pond dipping and there is now a Totem Trail which covers about 2 miles.
My youngest is only 5 and she loves it there, building log houses in the woods, jumping in mud and puddles if the weather is inclement. We spend 4 or more hours there each time and she never tires of it. You can also BBQ up there either taking your own or hiring one of the larger ones and there's an information centre with interactive nature quizzes etc.

ive been to both hayling island fair (i think its called funland) and itchen valley and they are both great for the kids. We also take the kids for a walk up the river behind the swan pub in mansbridge up to northam bridge theres 2-3 parks along the way, ducks to feed and up the northam end theres a mini train & track the kids can ride on for about 50p a go (when its been quiet my boys were allowed to stay on for ages and only paid for 1 go) the only problem is it doesnt run all day every day. usually sunday afternoons.
